Importance of Exfoliation

Exfoliating is one of the key parts of keeping beautiful healthy skin. We see exfoliation products being advertised repeatedly on television but why is it so important and what products are the right ones to use?

Exfoliation is defined as the removal of the oldest dead skin cells from the skin’s outermost surface. It is always recommended by skin care specialists, doctors, and beauty professionals to maintain healthy looking skin. It is so widely used and thought of as important that it will be a key part to any facial no matter where you go. It is also used during major treatments such as microdermabrasion and chemical peels. There are many different ways to accomplish exfoliation and the simplest of forms can be very effective.

The reason exfoliating is so important is new cells are created in the dermis, the lower layer of skin. Overtime those will move to the surface and become more acidic. This process takes about 30 days during which these cells will die and become filled with keratin. During aging this process becomes uneven and gives the skin the appearance of being spotted, blotchy, or dry. By exfoliating you are constantly removing the old skin cells and revealing the newest skin. However you choose to exfoliate by using any of the wide variety of products out there it is important that it is done routinely and always done after cleansing so you are really getting good contact with the actual top layer of your skin.

It is also possible to over dry the skin by exfoliating too much so it is equally important to moisturize using a good oil free face cream afterwards. Dry skin does not only look bad and not feel as good it can also have more severe permanent effects such as causing wrinkles. We all know that is the last thing women want on their face.

Good skin care habits such as cleansing, exfoliating, moisturizing, sun screen, and a healthy diet of vitamins and nutrients can make a world of difference in the look, feel, and health of your skin.
